Homewise Saves $600,000+ With Ekotrope
New Mexico production builder optimizes 78-home development to realize significant cost savings
Homewise, a community developer based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was facing a problem: a state green building tax credit they had been receiving was over-subscribed and evaporating. The energy efficient features of their homes that had become a cornerstone of their business were no longer cost-effective and it was time to re-evaluate. It was during this time that they received a call from Ekotrope's Adam Newman, who introduced Homewise to Ekotrope's system for optimizing home designs to maximize cost savings and energy efficiency while striking the right balance of the two. Homewise CEO Mike Loftin was intrigued and decided to bring Ekotrope on to analyze the first phase of their Tessera development. Lead Ekotrope engineer Cy Kilbourn worked with Homewise's team to establish different energy options and costs for the 7 base plans comprising the 78 homes of the first phase. Cy then used Ekotrope's proprietary software, which allowed him to rapidly calculate the energy performance and construction cost of thousands of potential designs and produce charts like the one above.Homewise CEO Loftin presented the results of Homewise's work with Ekotrope in a webinar along with Ekotrope's Bill Flynn and Adam Newman. The video recording of the webinar is embedded below.
